About Dick Simon Yachts
A graduate of the University of Wenatchee in Washington in 1956 and the University of Utah in 1958, Dick Simon became an avid sky-diver winning the 1966 National Sky-Diving Championship. In 1962, Dick parachuted into the Salt Lake City Fairgrounds which is where he first stepped into a race car. Just a few years later, at the age of 36, Dick qualified for his first Indianapolis 500. He still remains the only Utah resident to ever have qualified for the Indianapolis 500. In his career as a driver, Dick qualified in 19 Indy 500s and competed in 183 IndyCar races.
In 1983, Dick and Dianne founded Dick Simon Racing, Inc. As partner and co-owner of Dick Simon Racing, Inc., Dianne became the first actively involved woman team owner in IndyCar racing. Prior to her role as team partner/owner, Dianne managed one of the largest independently owned real estate sales office in the state of California.
In 1988, Dick retired as driver to concentrate on owning and managing the team. Dick Simon is considered a top sportsman and one of the best promoters for sponsors in IndyCar racing. He has won many awards including the 1994 A. Angelopolous Winner - the Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association award that goes to the team owner who “best exemplifies the creed of good sportsmanship”.
Dick's accomplishments also include being the alternate to the 1960 Olympic Ski Team, National Champion Parachute Jumper, an expert scuba diver and a multi-engine pilot. He and Dianne reside in San Juan Capistrano, California.
